EX CADET PASSES OUT FROM HARROGATE TRAINING
Private Morgan Dodds, an ex-cadet from Mona House Detachment has recently completed his training at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate and his mum contacted us to let us know how he was getting on and to thank us.
This is what his mum sent to us after talking to him.
“Morgan said his training was tough, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. Being in the ACF encouraged him to follow his dreams and helped him to learn skills that he is still using today. He joined the Mercian Regiment at Weeton at the end of September, and he wanted to thank you personally for all your support.”
Morgan is just another example of what the ACF as a youth organisation can do for younger people today, giving them the values and standards to make the right decisions in life.
Finishing up the last BTEC in B Company for the year!
Cadet Senior Non-Commissioned Officers across the county have been working hard on their BTEC awards.
Sergeant Instructor (SI) John Tomkinson, the County BTEC Officer, visited Middleton Detachment to meet Sergeant Tom Hook who is working hard to complete his BTEC level 2 workbook in Teamwork and Personal Development.
SI Tomkinson said: “I have been delivering one-to-one assistance to a cadet to help them complete their BTEC Level 2 in Teamwork and Personal Development; and this will be the last candidate from B Coy still to complete the qualification on the old syllabus. September 2021 sees the start of the implementation of the BTEC in a new and innovative format. Details will follow and enrolments will also begin in September. If you are aged 16 or over on the 1st of September this year, then give it a go”.
B COMPANY CADETS DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD WEEKEND
Cadets from B Company completed their 2-day expedition stage of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) award recently and were congratulated on their achievement. Even after a few surprises at the end you have all worked so hard throughout the weekend.
Some information about the DofE Award: The DofE award was created
in 1956, with the aims to improve personal development and employabil- ity of young people. Education establishments and employers also value the DofE Award and the skills that are gained. DofE encourages young people to get involved in exciting challenges. The DofE promotes teamwork, self-discipline, empathy and independence and is something young people remember for the rest of their lives.
Bronze Award: You can register as soon as you are in the school year in which you will turn 14.
The Bronze award consists of four sections - volunteering, physical, skills and expedition. The first three of these must be undertaken over a period of three months, with an additional three months being spent on one section of your choice. The two-day, one-night expedition must be planned, trained for and completed in order to finish the Bronze award.
Why Do It?
1. It's open to all young people
2. Looks great on CVs and applications
3. It's an opportunity to try new things
4. Practice teamwork
5. Give something back to the community
