RAC Training Regiment
Throughout 2021 we welcomed two new additions to the RAC Training Regiment; Maj Thomas as OC Waterloo Sqn and SSgt Welfoot as JCC Troop Leader. During this time, there have been numerous opportunities for the ITTs (Initial Trade Training) to interact with those at Regimental Duty (RD) from the link meetings to Regimental visits.
Prior to deploying on Operation Newcombe, C Sqn SSM, WO2 Davies delivered a PowerPoint to the ITTs about life at RD, Operation Newcombe and future commitments. We were also joined by JNCOs who were attending JCC Command to explain life at RD from a JNCO perspective and what to expect. Shortly after, C Sqn were conducting mounted ranges in Lulworth, this saw an opportunity for the RACTR to join C Sqn and observe live firing as well as getting hands on new optic sights and ask ques- tions to their peers.
During the Summer, the CO, RSM, along with the QDG battlegroup consisting of RHQ, HQ and A SQN began a range package for their pre deployment training. This was another
great opportunity for the ITTs to visit the Regiment at Lulworth. The CO and RSM welcomed the ITTs to the Regiment and
the Regimental history. The feedback received from the ITTs was positive and they enjoyed their time in Cardiff working alongside soldiers at RD. Upon returning
back to RACTR the Regiment passed on that we had helped to raise over £15,000.
ARMCEN hosted the RAC Boxing which saw the HQ Sqn Ldr, Maj Mansel and the RCMO, Capt Hansen attend. Whilst at Bovington, Major Mansel and Capt Hansen welcomed the ITTs and delivered an in-depth brief about the Regiment’s current and future commit- ments as well as all the opportunities at RD, from AT and promotion prospects to future tours in Mali.
To close the year off Cpl Rose and QDG ITTs worked together to send Christmas
parcels out to those deployed on Opera- tion Newcombe.
JR
briefed the ITTs with regards the Regiment. The ITTs were then shown how mounted ranges were conducted and watched some live firing.
RACTR also received
numerous visits from the
RET team under Sgt Grills
who attended with the Farrier
Major and LCpl Jones. The
ITTs had the opportunity to
meet the RET team and LCpl
Jones who provided the ITTs
with an insight of the extra
benefits at RD such as AT and
recruitment. Later, we joined
the RET on the Royal British
Legion Poppy Appeal to raise
money for veterans involved
in conflicts since the First
World War. Sgt Petre and Cpl
Rose assisted along with 5 QDG ITTs. This saw us conducting activities from selling poppies to visiting the Regimental Museum and gaining a greater understanding of
