Plaques to the Eland family can be seen in St James’ Church on the east wall of the south aisle. The church is open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
So often you find old photographs of people and places without either a location or name/names to help with identification. I
was grateful that my mother did put these details on her photos towards the end of her life because, without her notes, I would not have been able to pass 80 year old photos to members of her extended family. I do have over 30 cartes de visite produced by Joseph Mason during the Victorian era with no information on them, except occasionally a number, which I assume refers to a
ledger in which these details were probably recorded. Regrettably, his ledgers do not seem to have survived!
