OWNING THE URBAN FIGHT, B COY
In early May, B Coy conducted an epic 10 days Urban BCS package in Caerwent. The package focused on offensive
and defensive operations in the urban environment as well as the Rural to Urban interface.
The week started with a round robin of lessons focusing on the basics of building defences, house/building clearance and woodland warfare. After nailing the basics, we progressed into an exercise phase. We occupied a building and set up a defensive house that was almost impenetrable to the free-thinking enemy that we were fighting against.
As the exercise progressed and after several raids, recces and advance to
contacts, we were establishing break-ins, clearing buildings and killing the enemy with ease. SOPs were well-rehearsed; drills were slick, and missions were successful. The week culminated with a Deliberate Night attack on 3 Buildings; a difficult objective for even the best urban operators. But after the lessons and training we had from received from our JNCOs the Objective was clear with speed and precision. Even the TES IEDs were spotted and denied.
After one of the best weeks I have had in the army, myself and the rest of the lads feel more than confident at tackling anything within the urban environment.
