insertion on the first day of the exercise
The final phase of the exercise saw B
Coy as the BG main effort for an attack on
a large village. After being guided in by the Canadian recce they launched on H-hr with fire support from LAVs. Despite encountering heavy resistance, the village was cleared in what was later discovered to be a record time. Special mention was given to Rfn Dan Bott
for stepping up as a section commander and maintaining the momentum of the attack. Meanwhile the recce element, led by Cpl Will De Beer, again inserted by helicopter to set the conditions for the Canadians to conduct an
air assault.
Working alongside the 1 PPCLI and the wider Canadian army on Ex MAPLE RESOLVE was a great experience and training oppor- tunity and a very welcome return to tactical
training after the recent disruptions. Having completed this exercise we are well set to exploit any operational or training opportuni- ties that arise at short notice.

S Coy perspective
The experienced Riflemen of S Coy deployed on Ex MAPLE RESOLVE in support of B Coy. They formed an ISTAR / Fires group formed from 5 S Coy Platoons, each bringing their specialised knowledge and skill-set. Cpls; Mitch Tudor (ATk), Benjamin Andrews (Snipers), Willem De Beer (Recce), Kevin Smale (Machine Guns), Edward McIntyre (Assault Pioneers), led their Sections to great effect throughout the exercise. Particularly impressive was Cpl Mitch Tudor’s rapid deployment to a besieged Canadian Coy. This resulted in the defeat
of over eight armoured vehicles, turning the tide in
the friendly force’s favour. Cpl Willem De Beer’s recce team’s actions also proved immensely valuable to the Canadians, earning him a coveted Canadian command coin. Not only did he facilitate the record-breaking advance and clearance of the main objective by B Coy, he ensured the smooth running of the Exercise as a whole. Sjt Daniel Worthington and Capt John Young did an outstanding job of not only administrating the ISTAR Group but adapting to a varied and diverse grouping and using us to best effect.
