An update from the Islip community – litter and speed!
Islip is a lovely village but even here we have to deal with a couple of anti-social issues.
Litter Picks
A group of Islip volunteers step up twice a year to collect litter, generally dropped by people passing through. By the time you read this we will have taken part in this year’s Spring Clean. Volunteers will have donned yellow vests and filled rubbish bags with litter. A couple of hours of hard graft later and the helpers will have filled many bags with drinks cans, sweet wrappers and no end of McDonalds cartons!
A BIG thank you to everyone who gave up their time to keep the village looking its best; you would have been provided with all the right equipment but most importantly if you didn’t come you will have missed the FREE bacon rolls and coffee supplied by the Rose and Crown!
There will be another litter pick in the autumn with details on our Islip Village Facebook page.
Speed Watch
For some time now, we have been trying,
for the safety of all residents, to get people to stop speeding through the village. This spring we will again be manning the cameras at various sites. Sadly, this may result in some drivers being reported to the police.
Imagine how you would feel if you injured or even killed another person, could you live with that?
A group of young parents have even offered to fundraise to pay for speed signs, showing just how seriously they view the problem. Please be sensible, we don’t want to see you getting fined or having points on your licence, we just want you to think and: SLOW DOWN.
