Chairman’s Report – Cllr Karen Draycott
At the end of September, it
was my privilege to declare
my “Affirmation of Office” at
St James Church, Thrapston
in the presence of 26 other
Mayors and Mayoresses from
local councils, Thrapston town councillors, representatives
from local community groups,
friends, family and Thrapston
residents. My thanks go to
the Sea Cadets who provided
a guard of honour for the
congregation, the Primary
School Choir who sang
beautifully and Reverend Nolan
Robson for his thoughtful
service. The collection for Mind from
the congregation raised a very generous £259.46. The service was followed by a reception at the Plaza where guests were serenaded by the serene tones of the Allegra Choir. The entire event really did embrace the sense of community that I had hoped for.
The Mayoral Charity this year is Mind. One of my Mayoral objectives was to secure a place in Thrapston for Mind and this has been successful as East
Northants Council has provided a room. Further details will follow relating to accessing their services.
Also, in support of Mind I hosted a ‘Sponsored Silence’ in the High Street from ‘Sunrise to Sunset’. I was touched
by the support this received from local residents who came along on the day. The day’s donations and sponsorship pledges raised over £5,700. A massive thank you to everyone who supported me. I hope that this event highlighted the need for improved mental health

provision in our community. Negotiations continue with
Northamptonshire County Council in relation to the purchase of the library and adjoining land. We all hope that we are a few more steps down the road in securing the building and land for our community.
Thrapston Town Council is working hard to provide residents with some exciting family events as you will see in the following pages. I hope that you are able to enjoy them.
