Chairman’s Report – Councillor Karen Draycott
It is an amazing privilege to serve your Council and our Community as Chairman and Mayor for 2019/20. With thanks for the faith that others have placed in me, I offer to serve to the very best of my ability.
As I write this report we are in the middle of the Arts Festival week. It has been joyous to experience the very diverse range of gifts and talents on display. We are truly blessed to live in a Town where so many people want to share their passions with others.
We are currently in negotiations with Northants County Council about the future status of our library building and its provision. When we have further news about these discussions we will communicate this on the web-site and also in periodicals.
In 2020 it will be 100 years since
local residents purchased the Peace
Park in commemoration of the First World War. We do plan to recognise
this with an event. As stated at our Annual Town Council Meeting in April,
we are just beginning to explore the re- development options for the Peace Park. We are considering the following: A new enclosed play area for small children, installing an electric supply and improved lighting, improve the perimeter fencing, build an amphitheatre into the natural contours of the park and making the park universally accessible. This is a project that will evolve over time. When we have firm proposals/plans we will let you know.
The nominated Mayoral charity this year is MIND. There will be events throughout the year to raise money for the charity and also to communicate the range of support in our area.
