Inter-Division BAWF Comp Winners
Naturally, I’ll be there to support the delivery of the Skiing and Rock Climbing. My wife says I’m ‘off on a jolly,’ but I keep telling her it’s professional development - someone has to do it!
On the sporting front, our Gurkha Coy throw themselves at every sporting event out there, winning many of the Brigade of Gurkha competitions. If it keeps the soldiers out of MTP – they’re there. Personally, a return to competitive running events provided a welcomed opportunity to get a few outings for both the RAPTC and Army Running teams. London Marathon for the Inter-Services Championships, along with Leeds Abbey Dash 10k being the highlights. The Army Inter-Corps Athletics Champs was also a great day out of the office, firstly, for being the first event back after COVID and, secondly, to secure the win in my first Army Athletics event.
Stepping outside of the realms of PD, I took over the role of PMC for the WOs’ and Sgts’ Mess in Dec 21. As a non-Infantry cap badge, I was expecting some stick – but it’s been great so far and it’s an enjoyable role. Between Mess functions, unit family days, community engagement events, health fairs, bonfire nights and the Christmas silly season, it’s been a very busy but highly rewarding year at INFBS. To round off 2021, we continued the age- old INFBS tradition of getting a pre-Christmas leave photo at the summit of Pen-y-Fan. ‘Twas a little chilly.’

To summarise, my first year at the Infantry Battle School has been very rewarding and, highly challenging - but enjoyably so. The battle rhythm is fast moving and requires a certain element of being ‘strapped in’ at times, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it. Plus – I’m a Welshman posted in Wales so that always brings a smile to my face. With 2022 already looking to be a very busy year for the school, there’s plenty of events and challenges to look forward to.
