What an exciting, fantastic and productive 12 months it’s been since departing Prof Dev, Army HQ in May 21. HQ RAPTC is thriving and driving forward several key initiatives that will benefit the Army and wider Defence. I feel very privileged to be operating from the Command centre of RAPTC business as these changes are implemented. Only here can you truly appreciate the RAPTC’s critical role from a strategic perspective and witness first-hand the outstanding efforts and achievements of our RAPTCIs at the tactical level. Whilst our size (in numbers) does not compare to other Corps, our outputs, reach and influence across Defence is truly unparalleled.
My primary role is Work Force (WF) planner for RAPTC liabilities. So, if spreadsheets, numbers and excel formulas are your game, this is certainly the post for you!!
I ensure our inflow and outflow matches, that posts across Defence are filled through the assignment process, and the correct promotion quotas are provided that safeguard the Corps’ sustainability. Simple maths I hear you say. Yes, it would be if there was no change - that is plentiful across Defence!
So, what are these changes? The Integrated Review (IR) and Future Soldier (FS) programmes are driving significant transformational change across Defence that will impact our liabilities, but more importantly our outputs. For the Army we see the ongoing re-structuring and re-subordination of divisions, brigades, units and Corps up to 2025, alongside the Regular Army WF reducing to 73K. As Defence and the Army evolves, the RAPTC continues to be proactive, ensuring our unique capability is delivered and assured across the globe. More recently, HQ RAPTC coordinated its own Capability Review (Regular) during Jul-Oct 2021. Against the known requirements of IR and FS, we identified the future WF footprint, including new posts, enhanced

Iconsider myself fortunate to have been assigned to HQ TDT as the post presents invaluable insight in the training development of our soldiers. The post provides plenty of opportunities to
acquire significant expertise and to contribute to the DSAT process, which I find extremely rewarding and that will benefit my future RAPTC career.
So far, I was able to implement my knowledge whilst assisting in the design of the CO DES Cse and to add value by creating ‘Train Right’ videos which were distributed army-wide.
Another aspect that I particularly like about working within the HQ is that our team is involved in a plethora of work strands, including wider Corps business and the support of the SMAA and other HQ Staff.
As a passionate videographer I was able to utilise my skills when creating videos for the RAPTC reunion that were published at the RAPTC Commandants Conference on 30-31 Mar 22. I’d say this was one of the highlights for me so far.
Another fun event was a day out trip conducting map orienteering
in London that I planned and organised. The day was a success to
get to know the team better and to support the ‘Army Teamwork’

business processes, enrichment and de-enrichment of positions. These recommendations, alongside the Army Reserve initiative (details provided by Capt Green), were submitted to Army HQ.
It is too early in the IR and FS programmes to fully realise what the end-state will be or even the scale of change for the RAPTC. But we continue to remain on the front-foot and engaged with the many Lines of Development across Defence. This is vital to ensure our WF and Physical Development (PD) capability is optimised to support the future operational requirement.
