The RAPTC Basketball Team has continued to grow coming out of Lockdown restrictions and have been able to engage in several friendly fixtures and team training camps this year.
Due to external commitments within the team, RAPTC Basketball were unable to enter this year’s Army Inter Corps Basketball Championships. However, the fixtures that have been conducted proved invaluable, especially to the newer members of the team.
The team conducted two UK training camps consisting of three days of coaching and gameplay. The first camp was held at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre (AGSC) at the earliest opportunity once restrictions lifted, with the team finally coming together after a long-awaited return; joined by new members Sgt (SI) Tash, Sgt (SI) Robson and Sgt (SI) Burton. The camp concluded with a game vs Winchester City Royals (Division 1 Solent Basketball League) with the final result being a 73 vs 54 loss.
The second training camp was held at ATC Pirbright which allowed us to regroup and work on game play scenarios and individual skills. Our first game vs 10 QOGLR resulted in a comfortable 76 vs 54 win; a good team win moving into the second fixture vs Chichester Knights. Although coming up short vs the Knights, the team showed character and determination to the final whistle with a narrow 67 vs 58 loss to finish off the year.
RAPTC Basketball shows promising signs for the future, considering the current skill level at disposal, coaching and training plans, as well as the continuing improvement in recruitment. With sustained

growth and development, the team is looking to bring home an Inter Corps Championship Win in the very near future.
Away from the Corps team, RAPTC players have had success within their respective units at the Army Minor Inter Unit Finals 2022; team AFC(H) comprising of Capt (MAA) Balwah, WO1 (SMI) Brown, Sgt (SI) Tash and Sgt (SI) Robson took home the trophy after a dominant display.
The team now looks forward to an Overseas Sports Visit scheduled for Portugal in September 2022 to round off another successful year of basketball being played. To stay up to date with all things RAPTC Basketball follow us on our socials @raptcbasketball.
