PETER GORDON WARDLE 1929–2021
Capt (MAA) M Arthur RAPTC
Ifirst had the pleasure of meeting Peter and his lovely family at the North West Branch Association Christmas
Dinner in 2018. Pulling me to one side, this well-spoken gentleman passionately talked about his love of our fine Corps and the time he served, which included National Service. It didn’t stop there, original photos followed, which depicted his passion for bodybuilding and gymnastics, where he excelled at both. We met again at a subsequent dinner, where an invite was extended to attend a passing out parade at the ASPT. It was a pleasure to see Peter and his son-in- law, Keith, enjoy the day; Peter toured the
facilities, speaking with our newly badged instructors and staff at the school; his energy and smile I will never forget.
Known as a man who saw the best in everyone, he achieved many things, including being a justice of the peace, chartered surveyor, and inspirational role model for many. My personal view is that his family are his greatest achievement. Survived by wife Margaret, daughters Tanya, Anita, and son-in-law Keith, they are special people; close knit, loyal and loving, I always feel a sense of warmth when I am with them. This isn’t created by chance or overnight, it takes time, consistency, and hard work with Peter and Margaret at the very heart of it all. For a long time, Peter battled ill health, yet continued to exercise throughout his entire life attributing his longevity and positive outlook, to the embodiment of ‘mens sana in corpore sano.’
I have many takeaways from my time with Peter and his family, none more so, than the importance of smiling often and taking care of the people around you.
IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY IN THE LAST YEAR

So I know this section of MBS well, I used to read it out to him, just in case he recognised anyone, I know he would be honoured to be remembered in such a way.
The colours that were carried on his coffin are to sit proudly in my summer house for all to see. Dad was extremely proud of his days in the Corps and liked nothing more than to have his crossed swords spotted by ex-forces members when he was out and about, it always amused him when they would say how much they disliked their time spent in the company of the APTC, but one thing always stuck out to me, the amount of respect they showed him because of it.
I have attached a couple of photos, one of dad in his prime taken from one of the group photographs at Aldershot, the other of Ian and Kev taken at the burial grounds, they made it such a special day for all the family and friends.
A huge thank you to all concerned from all of us.
