  ROYAL LANCERS (QUEEN ELIZABETH’S OWN)
From a Physical Development front, this year the Royal Lancers have focussed on re-energising its Sports and Adventurous training participation. Partly due to COVID 19, there has
been a review on how we operate, identifying best practices and adopting a ‘lessons learnt’ mentality.
This year the Royal Lancers have been successful in multiple Brigade level competitions, finishing 1st in the 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade orienteering and warrior fitness competitions whilst finishing 3rd in the Brigade operational shooting event.
The Royal Lancers were also able to retain the 3 Division Iron Trophy. This year saw the competition become a British Army Warrior Fitness style event, with units fielding teams of 10 participants across 4 workouts. The competition was held virtually. There were logistical issues to overcome both prior and during the event but somehow the Lancers were able to pull the win out of the bag.
We have also competed in football, rugby, cricket, golf and athletics at both Regional and Army competitions. In December, the unit

held an inter sqn boxing event for the first time since 2019, with 6 preliminary bouts and 9 bouts in an amazing boxing evening.
This year, the Royal Lancers have delivered type 2 and 3 adventurous training activities in Scotland, the Lake District and the Isle of Wight. There was also a healthy representation in Skiing in Austria.
The regiment is always keen to get its soldiers around the world, as well as the Op RESCRIPT Support, this year, the regiment deployed a sub-unit to Ukraine (Op ORBITAL), Kosovo and Bosnia (Op ELGIN) and Belize (Ex MAYAN WARRIOR). This year also saw the entire Regiment deploy to Germany for 5 weeks on a Battle Group exercise.
In 2022 the Royal Lancers will be aiming to retain the 3 Division Iron Trophy, host the 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade Boxing Championships and lead several Sailing expeditions.
5 MEDICAL REGIMENT

5Medical Regiment has rejuvenated PD within this training year after a previously dense COVID climate. Although the unit has remained dispersed due to on-going deployments in
support of the COVID pandemic, some normality and routine to PD began to flourish. When normality returned to group PT, building up for the inbound non-GCC RFT(S) was the unit’s priority.
Due to clinical roles and concurrent taskings and deployments across the unit, programming for the RFT(S) via the APTS framework had to be flexible and adaptable. Roughly a quarter of the unit was able to be compliant with routine PT and this population progressed through the APTS blocks to become successfully conditioned and prepared to achieve the required RFT(S) standards. As other personnel returned throughout these blocks, we needed to introduce a build-up pathway to bring these individuals to the required standard at their own pace. We designed a set session offered twice weekly that progressively increased the load on all representative military tasks (RMTs) of the RFT(S) until Soldiers were deemed conditioned. This acted as a great screening tool for all RMTs and prevented a high failure rate and managed the injury risk. The unit continues to utilise this method as more Soldiers return to routine work.
