LIFE
Heroes, heart-throbs, hockey
It certainly feels like we are already on the countdown to Christmas...
What an eclectic mix of stories we have for you in this November issue, from Roman bowls to bowls of soup and Christmas Magic to coded cards! We really hope you enjoy reading it... Our new features writer, Stuart Barker, has delved into the history of movie star Clark Gable’s stay in the area during 1943. Gable served as part of a B-17 Bomber crew at Polebrook Airfield and became a ‘local lad’. Such a big star, it’s bizarre to think of him propping up the bar at The George (page 12).
From heart-throb to hero – Captain Charles Vickers was educated at Oundle School and is commemorated, along with two other old boys,
on a plaque in it’s chapel. Incredible courage at such a young age (page 10).
A date for your calendar: Saturday 3rd December is Oundle Christmas Market. Starting at 12 noon, the Market Place, Queen Victoria Hall, and West Street, will be crammed full with a fabulous array of food, gifts, and goodies. You’re sure to find that perfect gift or something extra special just for you (page 26).
Watch out for our Gift Guide in the December issue, fabulous presents all available locally.
