   Serjeants’ Mess Matters
The Serjeants’ Mess has been quiet recently with most of the Battalion deployed or on exercise. However, we have still managed to hold some great events. First, we had our Ibiza themed party in the garden
for our summer function, which was a fantastic event and witness to some
very questionable dancing! CSjt Mcavoy executed a memorable function. We soon turned our attention to a generations weekend; this event was focussed on giving close family members a taste of Battalion life. A day on the range and naturally a
few drinks afterwards along with a full regimental dinner. Thanks are owed to CSjt Pearson for planning the event, which was a great success.
The Mess then moved swiftly onto hosting the Battalion Ranger awards dinner and the Sjt’s Mess Christmas Ball which is always
a great chance to relax and reflect on the accomplishments of the year, along with our partners and Veterans. CSjt Delahunty worked tirelessly, and it was a wonderful occasion.
The Mess also had the privilege to host the first Ranger’s Boxing evening. This event was a chance for the Rangers regiment to show case their boxing abilities against the
4 RANGER’s Officer’s Mess has been a hub of activity over the last six months, with a wide range of events and activities taking place involving all mess members new and old!
In between the stream of informal dine-outs for several members including Luke Kemp, Doug Butt and Tom Farrow (all staunch livers-in at some point!), we also managed to fit in a couple of brilliantly themed nights. One of these was a wine night by which members pretended to understand sophisticated undertones from various corners of the globe embodied in bottles of claret, led by actual experts trying
to educate us without judgement. Another
was the summer ball, a country and western themed extravaganza which had everything from American muscle cars to southern themed party games, not to mention some of the hillbilly guests that were invited (only joking!).
One of the most notable events of the second half of 2022 was the inaugural Ranger’s Boxing night, where many brave warriors took on the Met Police in an old-fashioned pugilistic tear-up, watched by guests from across the British military, along with numerous friends from 5th SFG(A). An
Met police and local Boxing gyms. The Mess hosted superbly, not only fellow members
of the Regiment but also the GOC 6(UK) Div and Comd ASOB. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the boxers that took part. This event was also immaculately executed by our RQMS(M) Gav Wilmot. Along with the RSM as Master of ceremonies.
The Mess is now looking forward to the challenges and adventures of 2023.

overwhelmingly positive review of the night was the result, and many sore heads the morning after (not to mention the boxers).
Overall, the Officer’s mess has provided a welcoming and enjoyable space for members to come together and socialise in between
a busy working schedule, with the next 6 month’s offering absolutely more of the same! Captain Jack Cadman
