This has been extremely well received and a number of successful golf days have been played on some of the best courses in the North East.
More recently a golf day was held at Close House which saw a mixture of 70 veteran’s and serving personnel play against each other in the unbelievable surroundings of the Colt course, home
to the British Masters 2020. The day was sponsored by Nichol Associates Ltd and graphics for the day provided by our main association sponsor NE Display Ltd.
A fantastic day was had by all and this will become an annual day for those interested in taking part.
November 2022 saw our black tie remembrance dinner take place again at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Durham. Interest for this event was outstanding and tickets sold out at a staggering rate leaving a reserve list for those that were not quick enough in the purchase race. We had
a number of guests attend from our antecedent regiments which have since gone on to join us as fully paid members and support us in our promotion and attendance at events.
Veteran’s Breakfast mornings have now been established and take place on a monthly basis at The Woodman Inn, Durham which is owned by a former RSM of the Light Infantry. Their support for us has been astonishing, so much so that we are able to offer breakfasts free of charge to all attendees.
We look forward to what 2023 will bring and we will continue to support our members, veteran’s and the regiment with the same enthusiasm that led us down this road right at the very beginning.

Paul Allen - International Boxing Referee
Paul Allen is a top international boxing referee! Paul’s father had been involved
in Boxing and as a boy Paul was drawn
in. On joining 1LI he became involved with the battalion boxing team and has been engaged in the sport ever since. The photo shows him at a recent international event. Paul had been expecting to officiate at the Commonwealth Games this year but suffered an injury from which he is now recovering. When Paul is not with his Hartlepool DLI Assn friends, or officiating at boxing matches at international level, he can often be found at Hartlepool Catholic Boxing Club coaching youngsters, bringing them into the sport and introducing them to competitions.
7th Battalion Light Infantry Reunion Dinner
This event began as the All-Ranks Dinner associated with
the DLI Reunion. However, with all the delays associated
with the death and funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II it was re-established as the 7th Battalion Light Infantry Reunion Dinner, though with respect to the previous arrangements any who were not 7LI and had booked for the All-Ranks Dinner were still eligible to attend. So, the re-arranged event was organised by the Chairman of the 7LI Dinner Club, Maj Pat Scullion, at the Gilesgate Armoury and what a magnificent event he organised, inside an indoor marquee and in addition to the top table a series of small group tables, allowing the members to chat to comrades not seen recently. Before the speeches the health of our new Monarch HRH King Charles
III was toasted, followed by a loyal toast to our Royal Colonel HRH Princess Alexandra.
