Ex LION STAR
This year six Officer Cadets from Cambridge UOTC were given the unique opportunity to complete the consolidated Mod Bravo course – Ex Lion Star in Cyprus, ran by Wales UOTC.
The course brought together over
100 OCdts from across the country.
The course consisted of a skills at arms package, which introduced Officer Cadets to their first live firing experience with the SA80A2 rifle; a tactics package, which allowed OCdts to hone their
skills on section attacks; and an orders and estimates phase, which was the most challenging but rewarding phase. All in preparation for the PRACTAC assessment, which assessed a variety of aspects included in the Mod B syllabus, including our ability to conduct an accurate combat estimate and deliver orders effectively. The PRACTAC also assessed our knowledge in the Laws of Armed Conflict (LOAC) as well as radio skills, fitness and skills at arms. Ex Lion Star was a fantastic opportunity, and as someone who wishes to commission
into the RMAS in the near future this was a valuable experience.

Ex Lion Star built on the skills developed in Mod Alpha and allowed delegates to train in a new environment as well as network with fellow Officer Cadets from across the UK.
The course was intense yet thoroughly enjoyable; allowing close bonds to be formed in a relatively short space of
time. For those wishing to commission at RMAS, the course offered an insight into how life would be there. In depth appraisals from staff at the end of
the two weeks highlighted areas for improvement in order to fully achieve our potential. Personally the camaraderie and support from staff stood out as a major positive, and I would strongly encourage future Officer Cadets to apply next year.
