CHAPTER THREE Finding the Farm
In 1975 we were living in Great Billing at Cedar Shade, the house that Cyril, Sylvia’s Dad, had built – some of it with his own hands. Cyril had been very happy to sell it to us at a very low price. The pluses were we were in a two acre garden of easy maintenance and the bene t of a heated swimming pool for the past  ve years.
We had open views to the front of the house towards northamp- ton but the problem was that planning permission for the area to the front of the house was anticipated.
Jo and Kate were most enthusiastic about their horses. They rode to a high standard and did well in competitions. Unfortunately, the only grazing and stabling area was not satisfactory. These two points made us consider our future.
Sylvia was fully aware of my enthusiasm for agricultural activity – probably because I took the Farmers Weekly, every week. So we started looking for land with property in a village near to Roth- well. There was a property advertised in Loddington. It was called Mawsley House in Main Street, Loddington – Puffer Wilson’s old house. It had a very adequate paddock for the horses with good
