pulled down the barns behind the house and put the stone on many pallets. It cleared the space effectively.
This action would give a large every-day eating area in the old kitchen and it would readily accommodate the table that Cyril had made from one piece of oak. next, part of the plan was to use the open area between the cottage and the farm house as a hall and landing, being the main entrance from the back of the house.
The cottage had a large open replace and was to be made into one room for our main sitting room. The upstairs was to be the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom then there was room for the family bathroom and separate shower room. We raised the ceiling height and put new dormer windows in the side and new windows in the end of the master bedroom. I did agree with Rex that we needed to end up with seven feet clear under the beam we would use between the two rooms when making it into one room for the sitting room. Hoping to get the planning permission for the kitchen extension rst we applied for that part on 13th June 1975 which, then, gave us and Rex time to get the total plans and detail which we did by the 10th September 1975. Unfortunately, the local planning authority were not into two-stage planning per- missions and we received total planning permission on 21st no- vember 1975. So we were all ready to go and we had many pallets of clean stone waiting in the yard.
