Patrol inspection
beyond to support the 5 RAC teams who
qualified (providing all the wax secrets),
ensuring the RAC formed a cohesive
front and supported each other through
all the racing, training and administrative
preparation that came along with it.
The first few races were held in
Austria, providing icy conditions on the
race days which the team were not used
to and saw several wipeouts and impres-
sive bruising to show for, in the days to
follow. However, the team quickly got
back into it and re-found their skiing
feet, settling into the icier conditions that
do not provide a soft landing when step
turns round corners do not go according
to plan! Returning to the Stadium for the
Biathlon events, the team provided some
phenomenal shooting results across
the Individual Biathlon and Biathlon
Sprint races. The most demanding race
of the Inter-Services Championships
however, would be The Military Patrol
1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards Race, split across two days covering a
distance of 30km on classic skis carrying
a minimum of 40kg between them. The
team memorise Orders, complete both
physical and mental command tasks
throughout the route and fire their
weapon systems. Troops were inspected
by Major General Mead, they must be
well turned out in their appearance
and kit, and are often asked questions
regarding the details of the patrol and
general military knowledge.
