 Gymnasium
Introduction
2023 has been another very successful and busy year for the gymnasium. As a department we have had a big influence in various areas such as sport, physical development, major regimental deploy- ments, and event organisation for the unit and brigade.
Sport Prowess
The sporting success continued in 2023, with Capt Cooper representing the unit in RAC Champs in Boxing and walking away with a win. This was an incredible fight to watch. All of the hard work Capt Cooper put in prior to the fight, having being coached by SSgt Parsons and Capt Phillpott, paid off. It’s all fun and games till you get punched in the face.
Cpl Marais represented the Regiment in London at the Battle Cancer Event; this is a civilian competition. The compe- tition consisted of four workouts testing all aspects of fitness. Competition was fierce, competing against 100 plus competitors. Impressively, he managed to take 15th place overall.
SSgt Parsons has delivered a Level 1 Boxing Coaching course, that was open to the wider Army for any indi-
viduals interested to become
a boxing coach. This was very successful course, and he

qualified 15 new coaches. 8 of these new coaches are members of the QDG and will go on and train boxers to fight in the Regimental Boxing Night.
In addition to all the success we have had as a department, we’ve also hosted a Bde-level 7s rugby event, linked to SSgt Parsons’ role as the Secretary for Midlands Rugby.
Regimental Exercises
The Regiment continued its busy year as A Squadron prepared for their deploy- ment of Op CABRIT. The gymnasium conducted pre-deployment training ensuring that the squadron was in para- mount condition to enable them to achieve what could be expected of
them whilst on deployment.
End Note
It has been yet again another successful and rewarding year for the Gymna- sium and the staff on a whole. Rolling into 2024 with pre-deployment training commencing early in the new year preparing B Squadron for their deploy- ment to Op Cabrit.
