Who fancies an early knock off?
  Kenya STTT
On 5th June 2023 a Short-Term Training Team (STTT) deployed to Kenya to run a Convoy Escort Course for the Kenyan Defence Force (KDF) at the Kenyan School of Infantry (SoI). The STTT consisted of two officers and seven NCOs from B Squadron, with in-country support provided by British Peace Support Team (Africa) (BPST(A)). The course ran from 12 Jun– 06 Jul 23 with a student body of 18 KDF soldiers. The STTT was tasked to teach KDF soldiers how to conduct convoy escorts for use on operations in Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia
(AMISOM), and to enable them to subse- quently instruct other members of the KDF on the subject.
Somalia is key to generating stability and peace in East Africa and further afield. The KDF are engaged in ongoing oper- ations in Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). AMISOM seeks to support the Govt of Somalia in operations to counter terrorist activity from Al-Shabaab. The British Military have supported Kenya in this mission through the work of the British Peace Support Team (Africa) (BPST(A)), delivering, amongst other things, Short
Term Training Teams (STTTs) to the KDF. The KDF have recently identified their ability to conduct convoy escorts as a weakness in their capability, which was being exploited by Al - Shabab using IEDs and “shoot and scoot” tactics. QDG was tasked to continue an STTT set up by HCR to deliver a four-week course to help fill this capability gap. The STTT was aligned to 3UKXX, offering a unique opportunity for soldiers in the Warf- ighting Division to improve their ability to instruct and adapt to a different working environment.
