‘I can’t remember. Let’s give her a call.’ Marjorie tapped on her phone. ‘Hi Helen, it’s Marjorie. We haven’t left yet. Did you say there is a resident on the list called Kilroy?’ Turning to Alice, she said: ‘She’s gone to fetch the list. Yes! I’m here. Thank you, Helen. Bye.’ Marjorie put her mobile away. ‘You’re in luck. The name is definitely Kilroy – Louisa Kilroy. What’s so important about her name?’
‘Because Cara’s form tutor is a Miss Kilroy. Now I need to find out if she’s called Louisa,’ smiled Alice.
Marjorie gave her a withered look. ‘Call me thick, but I don’t follow. What’s the connection between Kilroy and this woman with a boy?’
Alice felt deflated. ‘I don’t know. What I do know is that the boy has been seen outside the Rauston Academy where they have a teacher called Miss Kilroy. Maybe the boy is related to her. Cara saw him once but since then he’s been spotted three times in the immediate vicinity. Twice on the school camera, and another time outside a corner s hop. With the times he’s appeared on s ecurity cameras acros s Raus ton as a whole, there’s enough to make a wretched full-length feature film. Now, according to my son-in-law, the policeman, he’s disappeared off the face of the earth. So I ask myself, are the two women known to each other?’
‘All right, Alice. I see what you are getting at. Allow me to do some digging. Look at the time! I must get going. I’ll give you a call later tonight. Wow! I’m beginning to feel like a detective. Take care.’
