Full and satisfied, he headed into the town centre to the library and was directed to the reference section to search for the Terrence Foundation. The staff allowed him to view the information online and Jake was astounded to see so much detail about Mr Bannister, the man who delivered a letter containing sixty pounds.
Jake soon realised he’d walked past the foundation building many times and maybe Mr Bannister had seen him. I posted my letter there last night.
He stayed at the library for two hours, absorbing all he could from the official website, and when he left he couldn’t wait to find out about the special Supper Van. Anchor Lane lay opposite Clary Lane and both were pretty much the same. Jake sat on the top step outside the Baptist Chapel doors, watching the crowds strolling back and forth. The face of an approaching young girl caught his eye and he lowered his head as she walked past with two other girls. There was no mistaking who it was. She must be on holiday, he thought, staring after her.
The door opened behind him and he jumped up. ‘Stay where you are, lad. Enjoying the sun?’
Jake nodded and moved aside to let an elderly man pass and then said: ‘Excuse me. Do you know when the Supper Van comes?’
The man stopped and turned around to face Jake. ‘Are you homeless?’
