tired of you telling me what I can and can’t do,’ protested Alice angrily. ‘Every time I wake up in the morning, my first thoughts are of you, Kay and the children. After Robin died, I suffered too, but I had to keep going to make sure you and Elise were safe. Did you know Cara and Elise feel uncomfortable coming here unless it’s by invitation? We have even contacted each other through one of their friends. When all this kicked off we were worried you’d find out and Steve was as well. What if the Cooper woman is here for a purpose? What then? There are only two people she would be interested in seeing: you and Elise.’
Steve stood up and angrily said: ‘Emily doesn’t need this, Alice! I think you’ve said enough.’

Make sure the doors are locked when you leave!’
Pete raised his eyebrow, and tilted his head at Kay as if to say, I told you so. Kay glared at him. She didn’t speak and walked back to the kitchen.
