‘I don’t know, Elise. We should make every effort to speak to Melanie Cooper and Jake together and ask what brought them here. I can’t do it in uniform, so we have to play them at their own game. There is no rule against driving along Bay Park Road, parking and taking photographs of the Channel Ferry coming into Rauston Quay, is there?’
‘What a good idea! How about Cara coming with us?’ suggested Elise. ‘It’s a pity Grandma won’t be able to join us. She’ll be driving through France.’
Steve twisted around and almost slid down the front of the car. ‘You’re having me on?’
‘Nope! It’s the truth, Dad, and I don’t blame her. I believe she’s on her way to the port to catch the ferry to Le Havre right now because her friends live near Bayeux. She’s visited lots of times, especially when Grandpa was alive.’
