Melanie Cooper had relaxed and stared at Elise. ‘Just think what I could do if we were alone.’ Her menacing voice

Cooper, while we wait, why don’t you remind us where Jake is,’ said Elise, feeling sorry for Helen, sitting crumpled and nervous in an armchair.
‘He’s safe and in his flat. I’m looking forward to staying with him.’
Alice shook her head and moved closer to the mobile phone. ‘Ha! That’s a lie, Mrs Cooper. You forced Jake to live alone in a wooden cabin, and security have seen you taking food to him every week since January. But he’s not there any more, is he Mrs Cooper?’ she teased. ‘He got knocked down by a car and he ended up in hospital. Where were you? We gave your sister a truthful message, but you didn’t even go to the hospital to check it out. Now, he’s on his way to Scotland with his dad.’
