    THRAPSTON TOWN COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Council Tax 2020/21
For immediate release: 17th March 2020
Residents will soon be receiving their Council Tax bills from East Northamptonshire Council (ENC) for the forthcoming 2020/21 financial year. Each year the Town Council requests money from ENC in the form of a precept. This money is then collected by ENC through residents’ Council Tax.
Following budget meetings held by the Town Council it was agreed that the Town Council would request a precept increase of just under £35,000 which, when spread across all properties in Thrapston, equates to an increase of just 1.97% on each bill1. Whilst the town continues to grow we want to maintain our facilities and continue to improve the Town Council’s services.
Chairman and Mayor of the Council, Cllr Karen Draycott, said: “The Town Council’s future responsibilities may change with the impending formation of the Unitary Councils. As such we were advised to put “a sum” aside for the provision of services which may be delegated to Town Councils. As a Town Council we are committed to providing the best service we can for the town and for this reason we felt it was prudent to act on the advice given. Despite requesting a precept increase of just under £35,000, given the number of new properties in our town from which Council Tax is collected, it has worked out as just a 1.97% increase to our residents”.
We are pleased to share with you a breakdown of our budget.
The total precept requested by the Town Council from ENC for the 2020/21 financial year is £371,236.00.
If you have any comments or questions about the Town Council’s precept request for the forthcoming financial year please contact the Town Clerk.
