The short stump rooted, or round carrots grow very well in containers, just broadcast the seed over the surface thinly, cover 1cm deep and water; cover the container with fleece, insect mesh or net curtains to keep the carrot fly off. Water as required and then pick when ready. Radish and beetroot also grow well and are good to get children involved in vegetable growing. Radish are very quick from sowing to harvesting so hold the children’s attention.
Courgettes are easy and one plant will supply a household with many fruits, they can be grown from seed or plants purchased. Put one plant in a container water and then feed as required, do not let the compost dry out as this can cause mildew which affects the cropping of the plant.
If you have a favourite vegetable give it a go as most can be successfully grown in decent sized containers – Good Luck.
