BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL
First Responder hero
Oundle Community First Responders are delighted that their group coordinator, Paul Brackley, has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the King’s New Year Honours list.
Paul has worked tirelessly as a Community First Responder since he helped to launch the scheme in 2003, completing 20 years of service to the local community. He volunteers up to around 2000 hours every year whilst also working full time. We estimate that Paul has attended over 4000 patients
in need of emergency care and
has helped to save the lives
of several patients who had
suffered a cardiac arrest.
He works calmly and
efficiently with great
respect for patient
dignity and a caring
and empathetic attitude
towards their family and
friends.
On top of all this, Paul
runs our monthly training meeting where he ensures that we are all confident and secure in the use of our equipment and that our knowledge is kept up to date. He travels the
area checking the public access defibrillators to ensure they are all in working order and assists in the training of other groups within
the community on how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator. He is at the forefront of
our fundraising efforts, helping the group to achieve the £8000 each year that is
necessary for us to continue to serve the community.
In short, Paul is an inspiration to the whole group! We all have a deep
admiration for him, and feel that there is nobody more deserving to
receive this award.
