Everything from a quiz to a bowl of bulbs, it’s the Rotary Club
The Rotary Club has had a busy start to
the year. Along with our regular interesting speakers, the local heat of the Great
Britain and Ireland Rotary Young Musician Competition took place in January. Some excellent performances meant that our adjudicator, Andrew Forbes, had a difficult task in selecting winners in some categories. Congratulations go to all the young people who took part and to those who won their sections. We wish those who progressed
to the next stage of the competition every success.
On February 28th, we hold our annual Charity Fundraising Quiz at Stanwick Village Hall and, if previous quizzes are anything to go by, this should prove to be a very popular evening. Tickets are available from club members or by phoning 01933 622433, and cost £8 for adults or £5 for under 16s and include a hot supper. Teams are to be made up of a maximum of 6 people, and the quiz starts at 7.30pm.
Club members were aware that the month of January could be a time when some people feel a bit down. Christmas gifts seem
to dry up, and it can be a lonely month for some people. We decided to see if we could help, and sought suggestions of people
who might benefit from a small gift. In the autumn we planted a large number of bowls of hyacinths in groups of 3 which we hoped would make an acceptable small present
for local people, and these have now been distributed. Details of our activities and events can be found on the Club Facebook page. We are always keen to hear from anyone who might like to know more about Rotary.
A message of thanks from Raunds and Thrapston Foodbank
We would like to thank everyone for their support for Raunds Community Cafe and Foodbank throughout 2019. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity over the festive period and have been able to give out Christmas boxes, prepared by Manor School. We have received donations and money from so many individuals, including children, organisations such as Rotary and St Peter’s Brownies,
schools and Acorn nursery, and local companies including Avery,
Kier and

Howdens. We also must thank Thrapston and Raunds Co-ops for having collection points, and Tesco (Rushden) for being in the Fareshare scheme.
One of the most generous acts came from a gentleman who was going to be away for Christmas. We were able to put him in touch with a deserving family and he purchased all the items for a traditional Christmas dinner.
It shows there is as much pleasure in giving
as receiving!
Many thanks, and we wish you all a happy and prosperous New
Year.
