    AT THE
FRINGE
4th to 13th July
The banners are up, the leaflets are out, the acts are in full rehearsal – it can only mean the Oundle Fringe Festival is about to hit town!
There are over 40 free performances over
ten days at venues around town. Feel you want to join in? The Fringe starts with an open mic night at The Ship at 8pm on 4th July – or, to hear the professionals, pop up to The George for a double rock, pop and psychedelia session with Jake Cunningham and Magnetic Pool.
Friday 5th July opens with JP and The Hat
at The Greedy Piglet over lunch, then some culture with Stamford Shoestring presenting ‘Jane Austen’s Life Hacks’ at The Talbot in the early evening. Then its rock with Troubadour at Dexters or R & B with The Kobras at The Monty in Barnwell, both at 8pm – your choice!
Saturday 6th July offers an equally varied menu: lunchtime in The Coffee Tavern with the CarterDolby duo, a full afternoon for youngsters at The Ship with two teen bands: The Violets and Upon this Rock. Then, a Blues night with BandX at The Montagu Arms in Barnwell from 7.30pm, or Broken Heroes at The Ship playing classic rock numbers from 8pm.
From the fast tempo bluegrass of the Down County Boys in the Market Place and at Dexters at 2pm on Sunday 7th July, through the Rusty Players Orchestra in St Peter’s at 4pm, the DIY ‘Big Folk Session’ at The Ship from 6pm and
16
rock and pop from Disarray at The George from 6.30pm – diverse treats in store each day.
The magic moves on with traditional folk from Chris Sanders, harp music from Nick Penny, ukulele bands, hybrid rock from Ice- 9ine, acoustic quartet The Cellotapes, and mandolin from master Mick Smith. There is also period music on traditional instruments with the Dansella players in costume, the Peterborough Flute Choir, poetry from Nic Aubury, Scott Coe and Aiden Surridge. Take part in a Regency Tea Dance at the Queen Victoria Hall, and there’s a guitar concert at The Talbot with classical guitarist Steve Bean, flamenco virtuoso Tomas Jimenez and leading ukulele player Paul Mansell. A dozen more terrific entertainers fill slots through the week.
While there is no cost or booking necessary, a contribution in the famous ‘Fringe Buckets’ for the performers’ travel expenses is appreciated.
And be sure to drop into the art exhibition at the Yarrow Gallery.
Two fundraisers do charge a small admission: £5 a head for the Fringe Quiz at The Ship on the Monday night, and £2 a sheet for the intriguing Treasure Trail to uncover Oundle’s historic, cultural and architectural gems.
