support for Alpine trips, with fellow ex-AMA members James Shallcross and Hugh Mullan, amongst others. A Winter expedition to the Pyrenees when we got avalanched INSIDE the Refuge des Oulettes de Gaube on the Vignemale (it’s a long story....), and lots of overseas expeditions supporting Army units in places as wide apart as (amongst others) the East Coast of Greenland, Wadi Rum in Jordan, Nepal and Slovenia, while overseas postings have helped me to climb in China, Mongolia, Kenya and even Afghanistan. My last Alpine trip, with fellow AMA-member Chris Andrews, was covered in a previous journal. In addition, there have been numerous AMA weekend meets, and a couple of JSAMs when they were still a thing. I even managed a stint as an instructor at JSMTC(B); a full Colonel in a RAF SSgt’s PID.
Most recently have been the AMA Winter Meets, the Norway Ice Climbing Meets, and the Ridges and Scrambles Meet covered elsewhere in this journal. I seem to have lost count of how many SMF, RSF, AMF, WMF and WCF qualifications I have awarded. And I have been doing green stuff all of this time as well, honest! But all good things must come to an end, and so it is with this. Hopefully I will be able to stay on as a retired member, or even, as an active MCI, to support Army AT as a civilian instructor. I won’t be hanging up my hat just yet...
