  SPORT CLIMBING
A VERY SHORT UPDATE!
Paddy Snow, Vice Chairman (Sport)
After almost 2 years, sport climbing competitions are back on! After authority to resume activity was granted by Army HQ, Round 1 of the Armed Forces Bouldering League (AFBL) was held in Southampton on 13 Oct 21. A special thanks is due to Kenny Geoghegan (who organised the league) and Rachel Gibbs (who staffed the request to re-start). AFBL 1 was a great success, with almost 100 attendees; it was clear that many of you have spent the last 2 years getting strong, so the competition should be fierce this year!
A full programme of activities is planned for 2022/23 with all the old hits (e.g. AFBL, Army South Lead) plus a few new events such as the Olympic-themed Army Champs in May 2022 and a series of subsidised BMC FUNdamentals courses throughout the year. The vast majority of events (bar some Army team training and inter-services) are open to all abilities on a first-come-first-served basis, so I would encourage you to come and have a play. Attendance in 2019/20 was spectacularly
high, so this year you are strongly advised to pre-register to avoid being turned away at the door – further details can be found in the respective DINs and Admin Instruc- tions.
A copy of the Forecast of Events (FOE) as at 1 Nov 21, is published in this journal. However, the best way to get the latest information is to look at the online copy. The live version is held on the sport climbing area of the Army Sport Control
Board’s SharePoint site (on MODNet). A cut is made every few months and is uploaded to the secure members’ area of the AMA website; each time there is a new version of the FOE, or a new DIN/ AI, I will send out an e-mail to the AMA membership via TahDah, so keep an eye on your inboxes.
Setting aside the obligatory COVID caveat, I look forward to seeing many of you at the events in 2022!
