ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Roy Davies, General Secretary
The evening of the 5 Oct 21 saw the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held and as per last year was held on-line. The separation of the AGM and a meets weekend, whilst forced upon us last year, seems to work and may be a model which we seek to continue. It allows for a broad cross-section of the membership to participate, reduces travel time and cost, and allows for a meets weekend to be dedicated to mountaineering and climbing. AGMs provide a platform for the committee to update the membership on key mountaineering, meets and sport climbing activity completed and in planning for the forthcoming year. Addi- tionally, there are two key votes which we are mandated: firstly, to approve the financial plan for the forthcoming year and secondly, to confirm the executive committee appointments. A copy of the approved financial plan is in the Members Area of the website, whilst the committee as agreed is:
Chair: Col Liz Dallyn
General Secretary: Maj Sean Mackey (confirmed at AGM) Ski-Mountaineering: Lt Col Pete Davis Vice-Chair (Sport): Maj Paddy Snow Grants: Maj Kate Redfern
Vice-Chair (Mountaineering):
Maj Al Mason
Treasurer: Maj Kelly Edkins
Benefits: Maj Ed Dutton (New in post) Membership: Capt Lee Magowan Journal Editor: Maj Mark Gregory (New in post)
Website: Capt Daz Edkins
Safety & Assurance: WO1 Will Brant Meets: WO2 Arthur Daley
(supported by WO1 Dan Clifton)
AMA Secretary: Emma Pritchard
With the business element of the AGM complete, the President, Maj Gen David Southall gave a short thank you to Duncan Francis for his significant contribution to
the AMA over the past four decades, and wished him well as he retires from service.
Whilst running the business element of the AGM is critical, it can be a little dry, so this year we invited some guest speakers to give short presentations of expeditions they have completed in recent years. Whilst there are many mountaineers who supplement their income with their tales of expeditions in faraway places given the breadth and depth of experience within the AMA, we had no need for them as we had Martin Corfield, Glenn Bloomer, Tom Merry-Davis and Duncan Francis. When presenting, audience engagement and questions are key indicators of success and given how well all four presentations were received, this was definitely the high point of the evening and will be a key element should we continue to run the AGM on-line in the future.
