Visit of RAVC Colonel in Chief to
1 Military Working Dog Regiment RAVC
HRH The Princess Royal, Colonel in Chief of the RAVC paid an official
visit to 1 MWD Regt at St George’s Barracks, North Luffenham on Friday 25 June 2021. HRH had been invited in 2020 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Regiment, but owing to the COVID lockdowns this was not possible. This year’s visit coincided with John Shipp Day which is recognised as the foundation day for the RAVC. The visit programme was impeccably coordinated by Major Wes Quigley MBE RAVC.
During the visit, the Commanding Officer, Lt Col Kay Hanson
delivered a brief on the Regiment’s accomplishments since formation and future direction. This was followed by the presentation of Long Service & Good Conduct medals to a number of personnel, before a walk about to meet troops and families. HRH was then invited to take part in a Regimental photo to mark the
occasion. A light lunch was then offered, and before her departure, the Colonel in Chief was asked to cut an anniversary cake. HRH was presented with bouquets of flowers by the Commanding Officer’s two sons, George and Jack, and Gracie who is the daughter of Major Emma Jude MBE.
