In 2002 Colemans opened in the heart of Oundle. The previous owners, Sheila and Denis wanted to retire from their shop, known as Kings, and it gave Joey Coleman the opportunity to expand the Coleman empire. Julie Plumley, Manager of the Oundle shop, says they have too much fun to call it work...
Tell us more... The family live just outside of Oundle and it’s a town that has always been close to their hearts. John Coleman started the business in 1969, his daughter Joey has been running the company for the last 35 years, and recently they welcomed the third generation of Coleman to the business in the form of Tallie, Joey’s daughter – John’s Granddaughter.
What is the best thing about your job? Going to work for a lovely company with a great team and getting to meet so many lovely customers.
Anyone famous popped in? We have had
quite a few famous customers over the years. Mainly celebrities, but we also have Lady’s who shop with us on a regular basis and we have been known to have a few royal customers too!
What’s your best selling item? Definitely the Leuchtturm Notebooks – they are a beautifully coloured collection of plain, ruled, dotted and squared books. We have seen them grow in popularity thanks to everyone who loves their journalling.
You have £10 to give to charity, who do you choose? Macmillan Cancer Support, as it’s a charity very close to my heart. Myself and the girls at the shop have baked many delicious cakes for the Macmillan Coffee Mornings that used to be held at St Peter’s Church.
What’s the best thing about being in Oundle? I am Oundle born and bred, so have always loved it. There is history a plenty, the
