and some single use items, but we have to
fund everything else, including defibrillators and the lease on the car. We therefore need to raise around £8,000 every year in order to keep our service running. We are always extremely grateful for the support given to us by the local community. Donations can be made through our website www.ocfr.co.uk, or we can be contacted via email: oundlecfr@gmail.com
Who’s on call in Oundle? There are currently 11 of us in Oundle or one of the local villages, providing cover on nearly every day of the year (and occasional nights).
What’s the best thing about being in Oundle? The people. We meet some amazing people struggling with their health but staying cheerful and positive.
Most challenging moment? Every call has its own challenges. Cardiac arrests are inevitably the most challenging due to the uncertain outcome, although our training on these is
revisited every month so that we are always ready to face these situations. Sometimes the more unusual calls are the most difficult!
Any funny moments? As with any emergency worker, humour is a very necessary part of our lives! It can help to ease the anxiety being felt
by patients or their families at the time of an emergency, and a bit of humour with the team can definitely help after a difficult job.
What makes Oundle Community First Responders different? We are all passionate about serving our local community as volunteers. We all live here and respond either from our homes or our place of work. We are a very friendly team who support each other and happily socialise together when not on duty.
Proudest moment? When we contribute towards saving someone’s life.
Who inspires you? Each other, and our wonderful patients.
