to sea.
Royal SouthamptonYacht Club is an
affiliated club and without this recognition we would not be able to organise racing.
Many sailors are under the mistaken impression that being a member of an affiliated club or recognised training centre gives them the benefits of personal RYA membership; however, this isn’t the case
– and in the world of influencing decision- makers and governments, numbers count.
Another good example of RYA working on our behalf is its lobbying activity on policy areas that will impact on recreational boating as the UK leaves the EU. Over recent months, the RYA has been in
touch with ministers and officials across government to ensure that the needs and concerns of recreational boaters are heard in the negotiations.
In the months ahead, the RYA will continue its dialogue with government
to argue for a Brexit deal which does not impose unreasonable customs costs, as well as additional disruption and red tape, on recreational boaters.
