Friends of Oundle Library Calendar 2024
The 2024 Scenes Around
Oundle calendar
produced by the Friends
of Oundle Library is now
on sale. Over the last 13
years the calendar has
become a fixture on many people’s Christmas lists, often to send to friends and family living overseas. And of course, it remains an essential part of the Friends’ fundraising efforts.
With local businesses supporting the venture through sponsorship, the money raised by selling the calendar continues to fund all sorts of things at Oundle Library. In the past 12 months, for example, it has paid for several children’s entertainers to visit (magic shows and more), furniture, equipment, supplies and even professional help to prune the apple tree and install solar-powered fairy lights in the garden.
A new approach
This year, all the photographs in the calendar have been taken by members of Oundle U3A’s Photography and Composition group. They are all talented and enthusiastic amateur photo- graphers and were delighted to be asked to help.
“One of the first things we did was look at the catchment area which Oundle Library serves,” says committee member, Julie Wallace, “It’s much larger than you’d think, with regular library customers travelling from villages as far
afield as Easton-on-the-Hill and Luddington- in-the-Brook. When we looked at a map,
we realised just what scope that offered the photographers, because the area has an amazing variety of landscapes, landmarks, architecture and wildlife – all the things we try to showcase in our calendar each year.”
Voting and selection
Every member of the photography group was asked to submit pictures for consideration and after a lot of deliberation these were shortlisted for the Friends’ committee to make the final selection.
The winning photographs will soon be on display at Oundle Library and you can, of course, purchase a calendar there. You can also buy them (price £7.50) at other shops including Colemans, the Oundle Bookshop, and the Barn Garden Centre.
