Groundbreaking Food Gardens:
73 Plans That Will Change the Way You GrowYour Garden
Nikki Jabbour, Apr 2014
Storey Publishing, ISBN: 978-1-61212-061-4 £12.00
This beautiful book is available on Amazon with a useful LOOK INSIDE feature, so you can sample before you buy. Although written from a US point of view the plans can
be transported to the appropriate climate anywhere in the world. Each plan is fully illustrated and includes a profile of the contributor, the story behind the design and a plant list; many of the ideas could be interpreted for a British allotment – a garden that provides salad greens 52 weeks a year and another that supplies your favourite cocktail ingredients, one that
encourages pollinators and one that grows 24 kinds of chilli peppers along with dozens more.

Sherri Brooks Vinton, Jul 2014 Storey Publishing, ISBN: 978-1- 61212-010-2 £11.99
This is a handy Q
and A reference book that answers 399 questions about canning, refrigeration, freezing, drying and fermentation, with an emphasis on food safety. British readers may have to substitute some of the ingredients and language – the book refers to cilantro rather than coriander and canning rather than bottling but overall the comprehensive guidance in the book would make a useful addition to any allotment cook’s bookshelf.
