Exercise BROWNING STORM
Conducted over three days, Ex BROWNING STORM is the flagship exercise of CCS Module B, designed to strengthen resil-
ience in the field whilst developing leadership potential. In this article I’ll recount my experience as a Reserve PO, providing insights I would have found useful before starting at Sandhurst.
Setting up the Platoon Patrol Harbour marked the first major milestone of the exercise. Each section set to work; pickaxing, shovelling and camouflaging shell scrapes to exact dimensions,

whilst simultaneously manning day sentries and setting up range cards. My section was fortu- nate enough to have an enthusiastic ex-builder who set to work shaping home comforts into the night sentry, including steps and a bench. I happened to think this was a great idea; how- ever, we were quickly reminded by our platoon staff that these comforts would defeat the actual purpose we were trying to achieve! Nonetheless, this physically demanding start to the exercise quickly taught us the importance of working for each other.
