fact that is beret defied physics by retaining atop such a mop of hair!
April saw the departure of A/Sgt Beard to the PET, subsequently finishing with a PET A grade, reflecting his character, passion and approach to training delivery.
In his place it seemed like a deadline day transfer saga with several soldiers expressing an interest in coming to the Training Wing. With WO2 Pople, Training Officer, taking that as a reflection of his leadership and what he brings to the working environment. We were then graced with the presence of Cpl Fletcher on his return from ATR Pirbright, supposedly a temporary assignment due to his NTT. However, the lure of the Training Wing managed to persuade him to sign back on. Since his arrival he has been a breath of fresh air and for everyone that knows him we are under no illusion when he arrives at work. But his genuine enthusiasm is infectious, albeit slightly annoying at times!
We managed to free up some space as SSgt ‘Muscles’ Longden finally got his gym back and not so long after he managed to acquire a new strength and conditioning ‘bubble gym’. An excel- lent facility to increase the output from the gym whilst proving shelter from the inclement weather - WO2 Pople did miss his brownies though!
Later in the year the focus changed to the delivery of courses in support of Ex IRON STORM and preparing an OPFOR under the Project HANNIBAL. This saw a plethora of CVRT courses delivered by Cpls Peckham and Mason, and LCpl Mayer.
Additionally, WO2 Galletly had the unenviable task during the second quarter of the year to ensure the new Safety Risk
Management package was delivered. Credit to him as he was able to rally the heads of department and their the soldiers. He also took part in a charitable Poppy Ride, along with other members on the unit, having been a relative novice the year before.
Finally, in October the brothers Pople (Steve and Chris) handed over the responsibilities of Training Officer. Capt Chris taking on the helm with the knowledge that a WARRIOR conversion was around the corner for Recce Tp and subsequently all things train- ing in preparation for Op CABRIT 11 in Sep 22. WO2 Steve Pople moved to Fd Army to work on the Information Exploitation (IX) programme. We wish him all the best and his knowledge of train- ing will be missed, but not his blind belief that his beloved Spurs are a good team!
