Final race day, and all made it across the finishing line!
(B Squadron) who finished very near the top of their Senior and Junior Novice categories.
For the other Team trophies, the A Team had less luck, mainly due to a few slips, trips and falls Mr Galletly would be proud of. Lt Cavendish took a tumble during the Team Slalom and Sgt Kingston went down in style on the Team GS in what was undoubtedly the biggest crash of the competition. With all the
Cpl Longshore’s pre-race ‘warm up’
calamity happening in the A Team, it’s even more remarkable the 2Lt Brown managed to remain upright throughout and walk away with the best individual RAC skier award at the end.
The KRH were not just content with winning on the piste, they had to make an impression off the slopes as well. Sgt Kingston and LCpl Lawrence put in an impressive 12hour shift in Pub Mort Fort seeing in Christmas Day in style, while 2Lt Palmer- Price was constantly honing his reflexes dodging stein glasses thrown his way by broken-hearted chalet girls.
Sadly, due to the benevolent presence of COVID, the Divisional competition at Serre Chevalier was cancelled, so the team returned home. All was not doom and gloom however, The King’s Royal Hussars have a formidable reputation when it comes to alpine skiing, and it is safe to say that reputation remains well and truly intact. Overall, the experience was hugely valuable for all involved. Ex WHITE KNIGHT offers a genuinely fantastic opportunity to exchange a normal working routine for the chance to learn unique skills while having fun in a competitive and wel- coming environment with the rest of the Royal Armoured Corps.
The Team is hoping with an easing of restrictions some form of Army Alpine Championships, Ex LIONS CHALLENGE, can take place soon. The KRH have the talent, so fingers crossed we can bring some even bigger trophies home and start 2022 off right.
