Ian Addis presents ‘J L Carr Remembered’. In an insightful and sensitive obituary, published in The Guardian in February 1994, journalist and author Matthew Engel said of J L Carr, ‘His novels were always a mixture of direct experience and astonishing flights of fancy.’ Ian’s presentation will explore aspects of Carr’s life that influenced his work through personal reminiscences, readings from his novels and illustrated material.

‘From Kettering to Kent’ is an illustrated talk on the life and work of the Northamptonshire-born writer H E Bates, presented by his granddaughter, Victoria Wicks. Her presentation will include family photographs and a short film compiled from home cine footage of the author and his family at home in Kent.
