Just a few words to say regarding our meetings and the RHS show at Tatton Park.
Our meetings are still not running but with the vaccine rollout happening we hope to start up again in the near future. If people wish to have a ZOOM meeting then please contact me at mcnichs@gmail.com and I will try to set one up.
As for the RHS Tatton flower show, I have been contacted by the RHS to say that they are hoping that Tatton will go ahead this year and I have booked our usual stand. I will be contacting members who have previously helped with the stand via email. If you haven’t helped before and would like to do so then please get in touch as it is a case of the more the merrier.
All members are more that welcome to come along and help. We are a nice bunch and promise not to bite. :-)
I have started the growing for Tatton. Late last year I put in the leeks and giant onion seeds and these seem to be doing very well. They are in grow tents with an automatic
Veg for show
watering system from Autopot. They have a fan and 600w LED grow lights on them.
I have put the long carrots, stump carrots and parsnips into the barrels in the first week of February in the polytunnel covered with bubble wrap. Hopefully this will get them off to a good start. The shallots and elephant garlic went in in December in the bed in the polytunnel and are growing nicely.
As I write this I am making a plan of what seeds I need to grow next. Fingers crossed for a better year for us all and I hope to see you all soon.

Normally we would hold our AGM during January, but owing to the ongoing COVID-19 virus and Government restrictions the AGM didn’t happen as planned. Our Chairman, Mr John Goodall as usual was keeping his eye on the ball (usually a cricket ball in his case) and prompted a Round-Robin of phone calls as a make do AGM.
Following on from the phone calls to the existing elected officials and committee members, all the existing officials and committee members agreed to remain in their current posts with the exception of Eric Hind who decided to step down from the committee.
Eric Hind has decided to hang up his vegetable showing green fingers (not literally) to pursue other interests. Eric has been an active committee member for the last 15 years or so, displayed numerous exhibits at DA, local and Northern Branch shows, so from all NEDDA members
an appreciative thank-you for all your contributions over the years Eric.
With no other nominations for the elected and committee position being received, the NEDDA officials and committee remained as;
Chairman: John Goodall FNVS Secretary: Geoff Butterworth FNVS Treasurer: John Croot FNVS
Show Secretary: Mick Shipley FNVS
Simply Veg Reports & Public Relations: Mick Shipley FNVS
Committee; Charles Cooper FNVS (Transport & Logistics Manager), Eric Smith, John Ramsell FNVS, Steve Wright, Calum Wright.
The photograph depicts the DA Committee. From left to right; John Croot, Mick Shipley, Geoff Butterworth, Eric Smith, John Goodall, Charles Cooper, Steve Wright (back), Calum Wright, John Ramsell.
For the eagle-eyed ones out there, the committee photograph is from the 2019 AGM hence no social distancing or face covering. Albeit remarks have been made that some members would benefit from a face covering, I’ll let you decide who.
Once again due to the ongoing Covid-19 virus and uncertainty for
the foreseeable future, booking guest speakers, planning events, visits etc.
is proving very difficult. That said, DA Secretary Geoff Butterworth is still trying his best to sort a programme of speakers and events for later on in the year.
The annual D.A. Show is booked
and planned for Sunday 5th September (Fingers Crossed). This will be held at the Village Centre, Glapwell, Derbyshire S44 5LW. For further show or D.A. details contact; D.A. members - Mick Shipley or Geoff Butterworth. All contact details can be found in the NVS Directory.
