Southern Branch Championships 27th July 2021
Surrey DA
The Surrey DA held their AGM
in March via the Internet and the committee all stood for re-election, so we stay the same for 2021, hopefully some new members can be encouraged to join the committee for 2022.
We have a full programme of speakers booked but unfortunately these are being cancelled month by month owing to the Covid 19 situation, fingers crossed we will be able to meet sometime during the year.
We have been contacted by RHS Wisley regarding the new Grow Festival (formally the Family Gardening Festival) being held from 29th May - 6th June, the event will be split into 3 themes.
29th – 31st May – Wildlife
1st – 2nd June – Flower Power 3rd – 6th June – Plot to Plate
We will look to attend for the Plot to Plate section of the event.
Taste of Autumn will be taking place 13th – 17th October, we wait to hear further details for this event but hope to attend.
I hope everyone has been keeping busy in their garden or on their allotments preparing for the coming season, I intend to grow as much as possible and have already received requests for any spare vegetable plants that may be available.
Keep growing and hopefully will be able to meet at a show during the year.

As we go to print, the New Forest Show is unable to confirm plans for the 2021 show, owing to the ongoing uncertainty around lockdown. Therefore, we have taken the decision the Southern Branch Championships will be a virtual show on 27th July. Growing to this date will ensure exhibits are available in the event the New Forest Show goes ahead.
Virtual Show
We are only in the initial stages of planning at the time of writing, so the following information is subject to change.
The intention is for classes to be broadly the same as a usual Southern Branch Championships, apart from collections and the Marshalls Special Class and perhaps with some additional classes. Due to the number of photos required for judging, the virtual show will not include collections.
Exhibits will need to be photographed from several angles to demonstrate good all-round condition and with a pound coin to provide an indication of size.
Guidelines on the required photographs and the deadline for submission will be confirmed in the schedule and in the next issue of Simply Vegetables.
Once finalised, the virtual show schedule will be available to download from the NVS website nvsuk.org.uk.
