coloured socks – that we all wore at her request. I also spoke of my promise. I adapted a poem read at the Queen Mother’s funeral entitled “She Is Gone”, changing the last line to: “Or, you could do what ‘Sue’ would want, smile, open your eyes, love and go on.” – a poem I have read at many other funerals since, including my Mum’s. How lovely it was of Sue, and her family, that donations should be given to Crazy Hats.
Sue made such an impact on my life, at a very difficult time, and I appreciated and respected the time, albeit short, we spent together; we needed each other – and she would have made a brilliant fundraiser! In my determination to carry out Sue’s wishes I was so glad when Graham joined our committee and remained, right to the charity’s closure, a loyal member. Later I was also honoured to be invited to Rachel’s (Sue’s daughter) wedding and very moved when her work colleagues from Corby, (having organised several fundraising events), presented a vast sum of money. Together with donations received from Sue’s funeral, and carrying out Sue’s wishes, we passed this over to the Complimentary Therapy Unit in the Chemotherapy Suite at Northampton General Hospital, a service
where Sue, and many patients, found much solace.
God bless Sue and others befriended, loved and lost. xx
