many years after. But it was Mr Kemp who really made such a huge impression on me and whetted my appetite for wanting to be a teacher. He was a young, good looking, vibrant, lively teacher, who taught us well and made lessons fun and memorable – and we played a lot of rounders! He instilled on us all the necessity to work hard and simply do our best. Looking back on my reports I think I did okay. I remember being very competitive with the likes of Keith, Susan and David, my very best friends, when it came to tests. Keith, just one day older than me, was my boyfriend and I loved him because we shared a love of stamp collecting. I still have a brooch in the shape of a fish that he gave me. We were inseparable and got up to a lot of mischief both at school and at home! David was another love of my life and I bear the scars of playing kiss chase with him, ending up in A&E after crashing into a fence post and slicing my forehead open just above the eye! His Dad, Harry, first taught me how to play tennis at Wicksteed Park and David and I were to meet again where we both studied history at Kettering Technical College – and played table tennis with and against
each other.
Now Susan! Susan, like Keith, was just one day older than me, and
my boyfriend and I loved him because we shared a love of
