The MT Platoon has had a few personality changes over the last twelve months. Capt Mactavish was posted in as the MTO, and WO2 Bartlett is now the MTWO. Departures have seen Capt Hopkins make the short move down the road to become the
Unit Welfare Officer. The MT also waved goodbye to some of the longest serving members: Cpl Gurung and Pte Brookes, who have both left the Army and we wish them and their families the very best for the future. LCpl Miti has been promoted and Cpl Raybould and his wife have recently celebrated the birth of their second child. Cpl Raybould and LCpl Geeves have both been away on promotional courses at DST, which they have passed, and the future of the MT is looking good.
2020 has been a unique year for all of us. Dealing with the various restrictions and guidelines imposed by COVID-19 to ensure our soldiers are safe, we have implemented new ways of delivering driver training and supporting wider Battalion exercise and operational requirements.
The first part of the year was spent getting ready for Op TORAL, in particular preparing and training soldiers to drive the vehicles used in Afghanistan, with Cat C licence acquisition taking up the majority of the effort. The MT managed to qualify over 70 soldiers for Cat C licences, all under the watchful eye of Sgt Grey, which is an excellent return for the Battalion. A switch
